Recession & Recalibration

Bookmark and Share

I can't quite recollect where I read but I read a one liner that says 'Recession Requires Recalibration' - How true?

People around my age have not seen a recession like this all our life - Childhood went happy and in college it was much more happier. By the time we came out of college, there was a job waiting and then this huge IT & offshoring boom that created lots of opportunities - Once into the IT Industry, life is hunky dory - Every day employees are treated like invited guests to the party - almost every wish had come true and soon we had more money than we imagined we could have while in college.

Yeah there was a little bit of blip in 2001 but it wasn't anything like now - This recession is different!

- This recession is making customers/companies think differently
- This recession is changing the dynamics of play
- This recession is changing the dynamics of thinking
- This recession is changing the definition and scope of 'opportunity'
- This recession is c-h-a-n-g-i-n-g, Are you also?

Are we also changing is about recalibration. PERIOD!

- Are we changing our attitude?
- Are we changing our focus?
- Are we changing our priorities?
- Are we changing our life styles?

Part of the recalibration process will also be about having an alternative plan - As companies evaluate different alternatives to ride through this recession, we individuals too have to have alternative plans:

- What would I do if I lost my job?
- Can we think of generic skills that we have which will be useful in completely unrelated field?
- Can I reset?

Reset = Unlearn (some of the past) + Learn (for the future)
